So, if you haven’t guessed it by now, my blog is about my experiences learning about accounting. Now, chances are you came to this page to find out who I am, so I will not leave you in anticipation anymore. My name is Zac, I am a twenty year old accounting student located in Bundaberg. Now, typically people would talk about their life, say a few positive things about where they live than share a few of their hobbies. Here, I would like to discuss something different. I would like to share my story, the story of why I decided to become an accountant.
Back in 2015, I graduated high school, as all grade twelve students typically do. When I graduated, I was determined to become an electrician, I had done everything in favour of becoming an electrician. I studied subjects in construction, I undertook unpaid work placements with electricians, and I participated in programs with the aim of gaining an electrical apprenticeship. Soon after graduating, I started working as an apprentice joiner. The work was pretty good, no complaints their, it was a good company to work for and it offered a solid 8 hour a day, 5 days a week structure. Unfortunately for me at the time, my boss was not able to continue the apprenticeship. Since leaving, I spent time in various temporary roles, a way of earning a little money whilst searching for an electrical apprenticeship. As time went on, I got to try a few roles in the construction industry. The more time I spent working in the construction industry looking for an electrical apprenticeship, the more I started questioning whether that is really what I wanted to do. As time went on, I started considering other alternative jobs that may hold my passion. I personally love science and math, so the obvious choice would be a field in math or science. I also decided I wanted a job where I could work where I wanted, the sort of job that I can find anywhere. I didn’t want to get into a highly specialized field where I would have to move to a specific location to find work, so accounting seemed to be a good fit for me. Now obviously their is a lot more to accounting than simply math, such as law, and I plan on embracing these areas and hopefully someday, master them.
Where will this degree take me? you may ask. who knows? that’s the exciting thing, no one knows. I could be working in taxation for a humble accounting firm, be a business consultant at a large firm, or be a CFO. I could be, whatever I want to be.
